Dear WISDOM Members and Friends,
It’s hard to believe. Monday, December 5 will be the six month anniversary of the sudden and unexpected death of John Stedman. John’s vitality, creativity and hopefulness were powerful, and in many ways it feels like he is still here.
When John died, some people sent donations in his honor. We have used those to create the “Stedman Step-Up Fund.” The fund is to be used to sponsor people in recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction to attend the Weeklong Leadership Training of Gamaliel. John had a special place in his heart for fellow people in recovery, and he credited Weeklong Training for helping him discover his calling.
We received more than $3,000 in donations last summer.
In August, Sarah Ferber became the first recipient of a Stedman Step-Up Fund scholarship to attend the training. She is now working as an organizer in EXPO, and she will help to select next year’s recipient.
In the meantime, John’s widow, Sharon, issued a challenge to us. If we can raise an additional $4,000 for the Fund, she will match it. That would give us a total of about $11,000, which would be enough to ensure that the Stedman Fund can be permanent, and new leaders can be supported for many years to come.
Sharon and Sarah made this brief video. In just 4 minutes, you can learn about (or remember) John, meet Sarah and Sharon, and understand why this is so important for them.
Please consider making a donation to the Stedman Step-Up Fund.
You can donate online here.
Or, you can mail your donation to:

John’s life was an amazing gift that touched many, many lives. Please help us to join Sharon and Sarah in making sure that many more people have the opportunity to become great leaders and signs of hope in our communities.
