The WISDOM Network mourns the death of our friend and colleague, John F. Stedman.
John’s passing leaves a huge hole in many lives. Of course, there is John’s wife and daughter. There are the members of his Church, where John was more than a pillar. There is the JONAH organization, which John has organized brilliantly and wisely. There are his WISDOM organizing colleagues, the people from the OPI project and the public health work. There is EXPO, which John was instrumental in helping to establish. Maybe most of all, there are countless people in recovery, for whom John has been a rock solid support, and a living testimony that there is abundant life on the other side of addiction.
The “Stedman Step-Up Scholarship Fund” has been established to honor his memory. The money will be used to provide a scholarship to Gamaliel Weeklong Leadership Training each year. Preference for funding will be given to people in recovery from addictions. It is our hope that part of John’s rich legacy will be a steady stream of new community leaders who personify hope, as John did.
To donate to the Stedman Fund, click here to do so electronically. Or you can mail contributions to the new WISDOM office, 2821 N. Fourth Street, #537, Milwaukee, WI 53212.
It is also our hope that all of us who leaned heavily on John, will be able to lean on each other in this sad time.
