Criminal Justice Reform Task Force

SOPHIA's Criminal Justice Reform Task Force works to reform the criminal justice system in Wisconsin, calling for programs and policies that enable people to become truly rehabilitated while held accountable for criminal offenses. We work to:

  • Call for expanded treatment courts in Waukesha County

  • Increase state funding for treatment alternatives and diversion programs

  • Restore humane priorities to our state's criminal justice system

  • Help people understand the real costs of incarceration in Wisconsin

Please join us -- all are welcome!

Meetings: 7:00 PM on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at the SOPHIA Office: First Congregational UCC (100 E Broadway, Waukesha WI 53186)

March 2021 Update

The Criminal Justice Task Force is focusing on two major issues: The first being crimeless revocations in Waukesha County and the second being supporting Huber Facility alternatives.

Crimeless revocations

There will be a new regional chief in Region 7, which includes Waukesha County. We will be reaching out to the new chief to establish a relationship, to make SOPHIA and its mission known, to explain our role as advisory and a representative of the community amongst other things.

Huber Facility alternatives

We are looking at the cost benefits and social benefits of the alternatives. We are also getting in touch with people in La Crosse, as they eliminated their Huber Facility, to discuss the pros and cons of their experience.

We have also been discussing the upcoming state budget, Madison Action Day and Immigrant Driver Cards.
