At SOPHIA, we believe in building a community where dignity, compassion, and justice are recognized for all, regardless of immigration status. Our Immigration Task Force brings together passionate individuals committed to standing up against policies that violate human rights and contradict our shared faith values.

Across the country, families are living in fear—facing separation, legal uncertainty, and inhumane treatment. In response, we’re taking a proactive stand through education, advocacy, and grassroots support.

Our work includes:

• Listening and learning from immigrant neighbors to better understand the emotional and legal challenges they face.

• Engaging legislators by writing, calling, and speaking out against unjust immigration policies.

• Monitoring legislation like 287(g), which empowers local law enforcement to collaborate with ICE—often to the detriment of due process and reducing the reporting of crime due to the fear of deportation.

• Offering direct support through errands and outreach for individuals afraid to leave their homes.

• Distributing vital resources such as "Know Your Rights" red cards and family preparedness packets.

• Collaborating with allies including WISDOM, Forward Latino, ILRC, Voces de la Frontera, and the ACLU to expand our reach and impact.

• Spreading awareness through social media and community events that reflect our values of inclusion and justice.
